Hey Scott and Dave,
Just wanted to say congratulations on reaching the Pacific. I never doubted you guys for a minute. Sorry for the delay, but I haven't had internet access since July 31st. I had originally planned on e-mailing you guys the second to last day of your trip. Anyway, better late than never.
Thanks for all the addictingly humorous and eventful journal entries. There were mornings and early afternoons when all I would do is sit in front of the computer and struggle over whether to continue job searching or to frequent the website. Actually, there was no struggle involved. I just couldn't focus my attention away from that damn addicting website. And I guess that partially explains why I'm still unemployed.
But it was well worth it.
Apart from the excitement that came from anticipating your successful journey, I suppose the other reason for becoming so engrossed was the illusion I had developed that I too was somehow escaping the realities of life. Something I desperately needed at the time. Then came the awareness of the "runtheusa" website. With each click of the computer and and each journey into the world of Scott and Dave, I was left withdrawn yet refreshed; not wanting to do anything except contemplate the unusual and funny circumstanes and people that lied in wait for them the following day. Even in light of the obvious reality that I wasn't on the same physical journey,
I knew I was still participating in a similarly unavoidable one. The journey of knowing and confirming like Scott said, that I'm different and not like everyone else. Society has no control over dictating who I am or who I am supposed to be.
Thanks for the inspiring and enlightening journey.
Good Luck Dave with Grad School and Good Luck Scott with training for the Marathon Olympic trials.
Take care and Lord Bless,
Josh
